whole shell finished.

we did the flat almost two weeks ago. a little slow on the update.
i found a person on craigslist selling a filter the right size for my pool. so i went to get it and ended up coming home with the filter, pump, inline chlorine adder, a pool ladder, two pole skimmers, a pool hose, and lots of chemicals.score!!!
bought the tile last week, should be picking it up tomorrow. and im planning on going to pick up the federal stone coping sometime next week.
once the coping and tile is on, i am ready for plaster!! then we skate!!

the volcano!!!

when ordering concrete it is a guessing game, it's better to over order. which we did, so we formed up quarter/volcano fire pit to not waste any leftover concrete.

concrete!!

man, where to start? we shot today. the day started off early, 7am!!pump truck showed at 7am and we started putting hoses together. compressor shows up and by 7:50 we were ready.
first truck shows at 8am right on time, we have a second truck scheduled to be an hour and fifteen minutes later. the first truck has no rock! none! they sent out mortar mix!! a quick call in to the concrete company and they admit mistake. they say they have another truck sent out immediately. we have to clean out the pump lines while waiting to avoid clogs. finally at 9:40 we get a truck. the mud is good.
there are ten yards in the truck and we got the whole shallow shot and a flashing of a little bit of the deep. the whole ten yards is shot in just over an hour and going great.
so, the third truck shows up and we start shooting the deep end. the mix is very wet and full of large agregate. we have to take breaks for walls to stiffen up as we go. we get the deep end fully shot and everything cut.
this process is awesome! the nozzle has soo much pressure! we had blockers at the top of the bowl holding plywood but when the missed rock would shoot super far, once or twice hitting my neighbors house! and once hitting hippy in the face.
thanks so much to everyone that helped!!
we came in at a total of 20 yards for all the walls. we will be doing flat mon. or tues.

2,750 feet of rebar got delivered.

starting the rebar, hopefully tomorrow i can show a picture of it done.

just a pic i liked alot. taken by dave.

been spending a bunch of days shaping and everything is really starting to look good. trying to shoot concrete next thurs. if weather permits. that will be one day less than four weeks from breaking ground. not too bad, for all the rain we had and only having one guy with any real experience.

shaping.

we are now shaping using templates of the concrete. one side of the bowl was dug out a little too far so we use wood at the top as a backing for the crete. the other side will just be backed by the dirt wall.

old drain field.

in the deep end we have old pipes from a septic tank drain field. we are gonna pack dirt over them so the city inspector doesn't see them. then the day of the shoot we are gonna blast a little concrete in each.

top plate in.

so we drove alot of stakes, and my friend duane came over with his fancy schmancy leveling/survey equipment. we went around and marked level on all the stakes and then added two by threes. then we put the plate in and pullend and twisted til it was perfect. this was alot harder than you think.

and we got a shitload of rain. boo!!!

we are shaped up pretty good now. this is a pic with a fisheye of the whole thing with the top plate hanging beside it. tomorrow we are gonna drive tons of stakes around the edge to suspend and level the top plate in place.

at the end of day three we are to depth and roughly shaped. here is a deep end template hanging out.

after two days of digging we are getting a few feet from the depth. here is travis, brad, mark and me at the end of day two.

sooo, we have broken ground. i rented a bobcat mini excavator for a week. we cut out the shape of the pool out of 3/4 plywood. we made it 6 inches wide. we staked and flagged off the outside of the wood and started digging.

final drawings are done, dealing with the zoning office.

i finished my final drawings, they are slightly scaled down from what i originally wanted. probably for the best, since i haven't skated bigger stuff that often.
the pool is going to be 4' shallow and 8' deep. 32' long and 18' wide. 7 1/2' trannies in the deep with 6' in the shallow. really mellow hip, 6' outer radius.
i went to try to get my permits today, but was shot down quickly. i need to get a survey of the property with plot drawing with pool on it by the surveyor. i also need to get my drawings i did myself stamped by a structural engineer. i have an appointment monday with a structural engineer, and a friend who is a surveyor helping me out this weekend on that part.
once i find someone with a large format scanner, i will scan all my drawings and post them. here are pics of two the drawings for now.
i should have permits early next week, and then on to building the top cap.

dimensions

i will be doing the drawings soon and will have all exact figures then. this will give you an idea though.
deep end will be 9' deep with 8' foot trannies with 4' of flat. this will put it at 20' from coping to coping.
shallow end will be 4' deep with 6 and a half foot trannies which puts it at about 8 feet of flat. also 20' from coping to coping.
deep end coping to shallow end coping should be about 32=34'.

figuring it out

so i've been doing alot of research and it looks as if the whole thing will be DIY, just me and my friends.
i went to the zoming office today. i found out my water table is in the clear by far(yay, no pool floating out of the ground here). i found out that in my area a pool needs to be 25' from roadside property lines and 6' from other peoples property lines. this is no problem for what i'm gonna do. i also will have to build a pool fence around it even though i am doing a 6' privacy fence around my property lines.

i have calculated estimated costs to be around $10,000-$12,000. i will have about $7,000. so i need to come with some fundraising.

what better way to spend the governments money than to build a pool? i am closing on a house at the end of april, and with my first time home buyers credit, i am going to build a pool. now this pool is going to cost more than the government is giving me, i'll just have to figure out ways to get the difference.
the pool of my dreams is a kidney pool built for skating and swimming. i'm thinking 4 foot shallow with 9 foot deep.
i have started researching the process and costs of getting a pool built, and have decided to do as much as i can on my own. i will document all processes, thoughts, and costs here.
